The first album I ever bought from a *store* was ‘On the Third Day’ by ELO. As a proto-collector, I went on to buy several other ELO albums as my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th albums that I bought at a store.
The first album I ever bought from *anyone* was an Apple label Beatles compilation album. It was from some guy my older brother knew, and it was great. Which is as may be.
I liked that ELO album; its revelation was that an entire non-“greatest hits” album could be filled with songs I liked.
That has been said. The next thing I say is I’ve never understood how or why Jeff Lynne was included in the Traveling Wilburys. It irritates me to this day.
George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Jeff Lynne.
‘Out of the Blue’ was a giant money grab, and ‘Discovery’ was appalling.
What the hell is Jeff Lynne doing in there? Did he own the fucking studio, or what?
